Irezumi goals can be achieved in Austin, Texas - one session at a time
We often see really inspirational photos of full body Irezumi tattoos from Japan, where it all began. It can feel out of reach, impossible, expensive… even painful to imagine the time and commitment it took to achieve. But how inspired are you to make it happen for yourself?
Large scale tattoo work requires a dedication to persevere, through the tedious minute after minute of needle annoyances on your skin. Whatever motivates you to get tattooed; to look cooler, transform, grieve, express yourself, add some color to a blank slate, to tell a story… it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of your plans. It all comes down to you in the tattoo room with your artist, pushing through discomfort to make your way to the finish line one session at a time.
A common concern when approaching a new large scale tattoo design is can I sit for a longer session? If you want it, you will - and you can prove to yourself that you are capable of doing hard things to get what you are after. Some people prefer to sit in the moment and relax to get through each appointment, others bring headphones and zone out to their preferred music, and of course the client who needs to talk a bit to distract themselves. Each person will find a way to make it happen, but it requires patience and follow through to get the results in those stunning photos of adorned, patterned bodies.
Once you have a concept in mind and you’ve considered options to land on a general idea - we offer a chance to discuss your tattoo goals at our studio; which is free and no obligation to move forward. Some people are ready to book right away, and others need time to mull things over before launching into a project; there is no pressure either way to commit. But information goes a long way; and gathering more details on what your plans include gets you closer to making them a reality.

2. Planning Session — Collaboration Through Conversation

The process is highly personal—freehand designs are drawn directly on the tattoo area the day of your project start session, ensuring a custom fit tailored to your body and idea.
3. Scheduling Your Tattoo Appointment
Once your concept is refined at the consultation, the booking manager will assist in scheduling your first tattoo session. Here’s what to know:
Large-scale or intricate projects typically require planning in advance—some clients book weeks to months ahead depending on preferred day of the week. Weekends tend to fill up fastest with more flexibility on weekdays.
Every person and project is unique, however as a general guideline full-sleeve tattoos (like Japanese color sleeves), could expect three to four full-day sessions depending on how each client sits and complexity of design and detail: outline/shading (Day 1), background and depth (Day 2), color finishing touches (Day 3 or 4). Alternately, after the first session, clients may choose to break the remaining work into half-day visits for comfort and flexibility.
4. Tattoo Execution — Personalized and Precise
On the scheduled day:
Jason draws the design freehand directly on your skin—ensuring flow, fit, and a truly bespoke creation.
Whether it's a large-scale sleeve, fine-line detail, traditional Japanese elements, or a cover-up project, every tattoo is uniquely crafted in-session.
5. Aftercare & Final Steps
Your tattoo doesn’t end when you leave the studio—how you care for it in the days that follow is just as important as the work itself.
Here’s what we recommend:
Bandage care: If a traditional bandage is applied, leave it on for 2–4 hours. If a spray bandage was used, it will gradually wash off in the shower.
First wash: Once the bandage is removed, gently wash the tattoo with mild, unscented soap and warm water—avoid washcloths or anything abrasive.
Moisturizing: When the tattoo feels tight, dry, or itchy, apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or coconut oil. Avoid petroleum-based products.
What to avoid: Do not scratch, pick, or submerge your tattoo in water (showers are fine, but no swimming or soaking). Healing typically takes 2–3 weeks, depending on your skin.
Sun exposure: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight while it’s healing and sensitive.
Need help? If you have any concerns, reach out by phone, text, or email—we’re here to support you through the healing process.
